Clean Beauty products and why you need to ditch the toxic chemicals

Studies are showing that 400+ chemicals can be found in a baby’s umbilical cord and infertility on the rise... it's vital we to pay attention to what we are putting on and in our bodies; and the ingredients will shock you!

I started out looking into the ingredients of my cosmetics about 17 years ago. I’d read an article that lipsticks contained lead and that made me suss, so I started looking into it more.

When I started using dōTERRA essential oils almost 5 years ago, I thought my products were pretty clean. I’d changed my makeup, skincare and hair care.

However, I was still using deodorant containing aluminium and spraying myself with expensive perfumes (as I looovve to smell good!).

I have since learnt a lot about what the chemicals in our beauty products can do and the detrimental affect it has on our hormones, fertility and endocrine system. And I’ve stopped using perfumes made from artificial fragrances. Don’t worry though, I’ve had more compliments about “smelling good” now than I ever had before!

Once I started using dōTERRA Essential Oils and products, I was able to swap out the last of the toxic products I had remaining in my life. Once of the biggest differences I’ve noticed is my sense of smell and taste has improved. 😉

It is now my goal to teach as many women as possible, how to easily swap their products to those with minimal ingredients that are not toxic but are just as effective!

Toxic Beauty

Each morning we spritz and slather ourselves in over 100 different chemicals – yet the cosmetics and personal care industry is not required to prove an ingredient is safe for human health before it is on the shelves.
So when we run a bath, shampoo our hair, carefully apply our makeup or deodorise our underarms, we could be exposing our bodies to myriad toxic chemicals.

Hormonal disruption in children, developmental delays, ADHD, low sperm count in men – these can all be potential affects from the chemicals in our cosmetics.

Toxic Beauty is a documentary feature that follows the class action lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson and the plaintiffs; women fighting for justice in a race against time.

This weekend pour yourself a vino or hot cuppa and watch this important film. View the trailer here >> Toxic Beauty

Clean up your Basics

Infertility, thyroid and hormonal imbalances, birth defects and cancer... these are the effects of chemicals found in the products we put on our skin each day. As women we can easily use up to 20 products in the morning alone and this means there is a compounding effect. A little of each chemical can really add up. I recommend starting with changing the everyday products you use.

The most toxic chemicals in your beauty products are:

  • Fragrance

  • Phthalates

  • Parabens

  • Resourcinol

  • Benzophinone

  • Sodium Laurel Sulphate (SLS) & Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLES)

  • Polyethylene Glycol (PEGs)

  • Petroleum derived benzyl acid, sodium benozoate, benzyl alcohol

  • Butoxyethanol

  • Ceteareth/ ceteareth-20

  • Mineral (petroleum) Oil

We all want to create a healthy, happy home for our families. Our stores are filled with ‘natural’, ‘organic’ and ‘paraben free’ products, but are they really good for you?

The answer is not usually.

  • Parabens are replaced with thousands of other chemicals just so they can market ‘paraben free’.

  • Any product can be labelled ‘organic’ if just one ingredient is organic, even if it’s full of nasty chemicals

  • natural’ means nothing…simply a marketing ploy

  • Vegan = can mean it is full of chemicals

This is called "greenwashing" = clever marketing to trick us into thinking they are safer.

So how do we ensure the products we are buying are actually good for ourselves and our loved ones?

How do we know exactly what is in every product we buy, even the undisclosed ingredients which don’t legally need to be stated on the label?

Well you can do what I have done and look up every ingredient via EWG or the Think Dirty App or you can whip up some great DIY recipes and or you can try some of doTERRA’s excellent products.

dōTERRA makes it simple, you can choose your own adventure:

  • You can make your own products (DIY)

and or

  • dōTERRA has low tox products ready for you

This helps you make the switch to cleaner everyday items such as shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, skin care and deodorant.

This is why I choose to buy many of my beauty products from dōTERRA each month as I have peace of mind knowing every product is actually good for myself and my family.
